I’m still using my TBR game board and landed on Historical. I prefer my books on the spicier side, so I took to Reddit for recs and found this book in the comments. Lucky for me, it was in the “available now” section on my library app.
The short of it: the heroine Jane is “ruined” by a man she assumes is a friend. The reality was that her humiliation was the result of a wager he needed to win because he’s in debt. The friend’s stuffy, icy brother, Harrison, who happens to be a rich duke, offers to marry her to protect her from ruination.
Jane is bookish, shy, plus-sized, and on her third season. She and Harrison have never gotten along because well…he’s kind of a joyless, judgmental dick.
The setup to their marriage of convenience is slow. The book opens with the heroine’s humiliation and then backtracks a little to show how we got there. A bit unnecessary, if you ask me. There are also several side characters who are just the worst. Conniving women. Older ladies who can’t mind their goddamn business. People who just love to dunk on the heroine for being fat.
But the central romance was really sweet and I loved the main characters, and the friends and loved ones they kept close to them.
If you want a hero who is obsessed with his wife, I’d recommend this one. He has so much yearning and pining that he’s afraid to show out of fear of overwhelming her. He’s worried his sexual proclivities will scare her away and by proclivities, I mean he wants to have passionate sex with her with the lights on and get a blowjob from time to time. Meanwhile, Jane loves to push her husband’s buttons and there are several scenes where she sets up elaborate traps to get him to ravish her. I just really enjoyed their dynamic and their interactions often left me grinning like an idiot.
Jane is also painfully shy around strangers and a good part of married life is watching her find ways to become more comfortable as a hostess. Like practicing icebreaker questions for guests ahead of time. I liked seeing Jane find methods that work for her to make herself an equal member of the household.
This was an easy, breezy read with spice and a touch of darker elements in passing. It’s book two in a series and I was fine jumping in here, but I will definitely go back and read the first book. Judging from the descriptions of the other books in the series, the heroes all seem to have a bit of moral grayness to them or traumatic baggage, which is very much my jam.
Couple spots "bobcat" outside their trailer, woman realizes it's just a meowing stray who was lookin
When the scary neighborhood bobcat turns out to be an adorable and innocent chonker.
A couple living in a trailer park sees something that they mistake for a bobcat. They see it only once, and not again for some time. Then the husband goes away on a trip to Canada, where he grew up. The woman sees the "bobcat" again. But then she sees it more clearly, and she hears meowing. Suddenly, she realizes it's not a bobcat at all – it's just a normal cat! She sees the cat is skittish, and she's also scared of the cat herself. But the two slowly make their way to each other. She starts putting food out, and over time the cat becomes more and more comfortable with her. She ends up adopting the little thing and naming her Creature, which is just adorable.
Every neighborhood has its thing it's on watch for. Some have the neighborhood racoon who meddles in trash cans and tries to break into homes. Some have a strange and eerie possum who hangs around staring at you through your kitchen window. And some have the neighborhood bobcat, who everyone fears. No one can take their kitty outside, and taking their dog on a walk becomes a worry. But what if all that fear surrounding something was really just in your head? There's something especially magical about the moment you realize the fierce, mysterious "bobcat" you've been fearing from afar is actually just a very fluffy domestic cat who wandered into your life by accident. The initial awe and wonder transforms into a real and actual fascination with a domestic cat.
Mistaking a cat for a bobcat says a lot about the cat themselves. They carry an air of wildness so convincingly that they come off as a predator. Their size, their color, and their energy all affect how they're seen. They must come off as confident, or else no one would mistake them for a wild animal. In the story below, the couple end up adopting a cat, but only after thinking its a bobcat. If this kind of thing has ever happened to you, comment below.
27 Midweek Cat Tweets to Rescue You From a Meltdown With a Much-Needed Laugh
When you're on the verge of quitting your job and abandoning all hope from the length of this work week, just remember that there are plenty of hissterical midweek cat tweets to help you temporarily furget that it's only Wednesday.
The urge to throw away our meowdern lives and go live as a hermit in the woods with our cats gets stronger and stronger the closer we get to Wednesday. Who needs daily morning meetings and endless email chains when you could be cultivating your own catnip, surrounded by cats and friendly forest creatures in purrfect quiet? No more phones, no more "circling back" to things, just our fluffy felines, our garden, and our many crochet projects. Sounds nice, right?
Well, the problem is that we're not built to survive in nature. We have about as many survival skills as an almond, and so do our cats. That's why we're resorting to our classic go-to solution for when we need rescuing from a midweek meltdown: hissterical cat tweets. They fill us with enough joy and whiskery whimsy that we can make it through Wednesday without leaving and never looking back. They're like our hooman version of catnip: they make us slightly loopy, a tiny bit delusional, and furgetful of all the bad things in life.
We won't judge you if you decide to go full hermit-style, but maybe take a scroll through these funny feline posts before closing your bank account and cutting all ties with your friends and family. You wouldn't be able to see hilarious posts like this in the forest, so take that into account as well!
Woman loses cat in divorce settlement, the cat runs away because "he's not getting on with the new g
In divorce settlements, cats should choose who they go home with.
Adopting a cat together could be an amazing experience with the right person. Cats are like babies, essentially. It's a little living being to take care of together, a way to simulate what building a family together would look like, someone to make decisions for together, to love together… We've been there, we've done that, it's amazing. But with the wrong person… it'll just lead to problems.
What do you do if you adopt a cat with someone and then end up breaking up with them? Even if it's not a divorce, even if you're just dating or in a relationship, it would be hard. You cannot separate the cat. You can't have a custody agreement over the cat, moving it from one house to another multiple times a month. And at the end of the day, cats are not babies. Babies, you need to make decisions for becauase they cannot make decisions for themsleves. They can't choose who they want to go home with after a divorce. Cats can. As much as they might not want to make a choice, if they have to, they will. The cat in today's story sure did.
Day 3 - Podfic - Heated Rivalry - Yuna Hollander

Character(s): Yuna Hollander
Rating: Teen
Prompt: The Caregiver
Summary: Yuna Hollander works through years of memories in attempt to discover when she should have known her son didn't trust her with all of himself.
There's a kiss at the end of the rainbow
My mom was from Minnesota, St. Paul specifically but as anyone who's been there knows, it doesn't really matter which of the twin cities you're from, they're just across the river. I've spent a lot of time there, even though the half of her siblings who stayed in Minnesota had families that were never great to those of us out here in the PNW. (It's funny, out of her six sibs, three stayed there and three moved here.) A part of me does kind of want to know what is happening with my cousins, but we've really lost touch, and I think one of the few I've stayed in some vague kind of touch with is pretty conservative, so... So as much as I've tried not to get into a doom spiral, it's really freaking hard. And it's not like these jackboot fucks aren't also in our own cities, especially in these blue states.
I'm considering doing the Fandom T***ps Hate (I hate that fucker so much I can't stand to say his name and it's ruined a perfectly serviceable word) auction, though I'm really struggling with the idea of it. I loved doing the Fandom Loves Puerto Rico auction some years back, and got to do both a vid and a fic. But at this point right now, I don't think I have anything to offer that anyone wants; I haven't found anything to replace Cap fandom and a lot of the smaller fandoms I could write don't even generate other signups at Yuletide. So like a minimum bid of $5 wouldn't exactly help the auction much when I can't generate any interest because of my goofy list of unpopular fandoms. There used to be these Yuletide stalwart fandoms every year like Kings, but a couple years ago when I wrote for it, even people who used to be into it didn't read the fics. I don't know, I can't decide. I'd like to contribute, but I feel like what little I could do wouldn't make much of a contribution.
Part of it, I'm sure, is that I am not into the popular thing, once again. I have not been swept away by Heated Rivalry, and definitely am reminded of that feeling when it seemed like there was literally no other person in all of fandom who didn't love Stargate Atlantis, and how isolating that was. It was kinda nice after Captain America: The Winter Soldier to be in something popular and huge. That's rarely been the case for me--even in hot fandoms, I would always be into the "wrong" ship or something, so Stucky was pretty wild for me.
I could consider adding something popular like The Pitt, but I'm also not sure if I could write in it; I haven't been reading fic much, for some reason I can't concentrate enough for that, and so I don't know what I might be able to do in it. There are definitely shows/movies I'd love to try to write but don't feel like I could. I have always admired people who can come up with ideas for just about anything they like, I'm so envious of that. I don't know what's wrong with me!
In non fandom news, I'm still mostly hanging in there: my numbers are holding steady and I think the cancer part is mostly okay, it's just the other weird stuff that's plaguing me. There's something really weird and wrong with my knee, and my hands are so bad and constantly painful that I'm not sure what I am going to be able to do about it. But I have chemo on Thursday so I am planning to talk to my oncologist about it all. Sometimes the obvious things are things I can't do because of the cancer or the drugs.
I had been in the middle of a Schitt's Creek rewatch when I heard that Catherine O'Hara died, and I am just so heartbroken. She has been one of my all-time favorites for so long, and there were two wonderful things she did in the early '80s when there was that short-lived revival craze of anthology shows such as the '80s Twilight Zone, Amazing Stories, The George Burns Comedy Week, and this movie a lot of the SCTV crew did called Really Weird Tales, that I think few people ever saw, let alone remembered. If you want to laugh and enjoy her as much as I do, you can watch both of these on YouTube, they're not the best quality but I loved them so and it's great to know at least one or two other people remembered these shows. Her segment of Really Weird Tales is called I'll Die Loving and the George Burns one is called The Dynamite Girl (the link to RWT is the whole movie, but the George Burns one is her segment alone).
A whole host of DNW
For one, it snowed nearly 10 straight hours. There was so much salt on the roads that it wasn't sticking there much but we did get a few more inches. It was a gentle snow though, so very pretty.
But right before my afternoon class started, I thought I heard my phone in my office but I was down the hall talking to a coworker. I didn't have time to look at it. By the time class was over and I got home it was nearly 5. I saw there was a message on my land line phone. It was this collection agency that didn't autofill the name or the case number and I did call them a couple weeks ago when they did that and there was no viable phone number. I doubt it's for me but I DO want to know what it is.
But also on there was a call from my bank. Turns out they called my cell too. It's a real phone for my bank. My bank called BOTH my phones. OMG. WHY? We all know that it's not for anything good and I have to wait until tomorrow to ask after it. God I hope I wasn't cleaned out by a hacker.
Then just before seven I hear a metallic noise outside. I figured it was the blade of a plow. But as I'm talking to my parents a half hour later I check my cell to see if they canceled tomorrow. Turns out that was a crash where my road meets the highway and I'm cut off. I didn't see anything so I'm assuming it's opened now. DOn't know if anyone was hurt.
I did put in for money for my work con. I could go to that Mexican all inclusive I went to last year for two weeks for what this costs. Sigh. And I guess I'm to pay for an uber to get from the airport tp the con hotel but it's like 24 miles and no one has a shuttle. When I put in for a shuttle it said it was 385 and showed and SUV. I checked renting a car and it was the same cost so I'm assuming if I want to get there I have to rent a car or pay for uber (which I've never done since we don't have any here)
Such a weird day.
A Ray of Sunshine in the Form of 23 Fuzzy Feline Funnies (February 3, 2026)
Step out of the shade and into the sunshine, for feline funnies are right around the corner.
Cat enthusiasts, we've struck gold. We can expect six more weeks of winter thanks to good ol' Punxsutawney Phil, which means we can stay inside our cozy homes, guilt-free, with our favorite furry felines until further notice. Though we're all probably super sick of the brutal cold, there's something comforting about being able to slack off inside and watch reruns of our favorite television shows. We get to observe the slow life outside our windows and watch the stillness of the squirrels sleeping at the base of tree trunks, paired with a crew of birds flying high above the tallest branches of the tree on your street. Aren't we lucky to behold nature in all of its glory?
Our cats are pretty excited about the prospect of us staying inside with them, because that means they can meow until we finally cave and feed them a little extra food before their actual dinner time. I can't blame them; they don't know how to open a refrigerator as humans do. So, in our cozy chill seshes while we wait out the winter weather, we must include our feline fellas in everything we do. Why? Well, once summer hits, we'll be out and about, picnicking and doing whatever else hoomans do when the sun shines (forreal). Scroll below to get a heartwarming taste of what's to come this spring.

'After a week of leaving food, he came home with me yesterday': A shy cat found during a snowstorm r
A tiny gray cat ran across the road and straight into a different life.
A gray blur darting across the road during a snowstorm caught someone's attention while they were heading home to prep for the weather. In a rural area where animals get dumped far too often, it didn't feel right to just keep driving. They stopped and found a small, nervous cat near a church, trying to stay out of the wind. By luck there was fresh cat food in the car, so a bowl went down and they stayed a few minutes talking to him. He kept his distance, but he didn't run off.
That moment turned into a daily check-in. For the next week, the hooman visited with food. The cat was still timid, hovering nearby instead of approaching, but he came back every time. Each visit shaved a little off his fear. He started lingering instead of disappearing, watching instead of hiding. Nothing was rushed. It was just routine and patience doing their job.
After a week of this quiet back-and-forth, something shifted. He finally allowed himself to be picked up without a fight, like he'd decided the experiment was safe enough to continue indoors. He came home last night by choice, not force.
Now, Charlee is warm and safe instead of being a gray flash in a storm. It was a rescue built on consistency and sometimes that's all it takes for a scared cat to decide he's ready.

Good-hearted people find tuxedo cat inside purse at park, they immediately take her home in the 15 d
If you ever come across a meowing purse, bag, or box anywhere, it may be a good idea to take a peak inside. You might just find your cat soulmate.
Finding a cat in your life is always a special gift. It's really not everyday that you stumble upon a kitten or cat who's looking for a warm home, especially in this winter weather. In the story here, some people see a large purse-like bag alone in a park, and what do they see inside? Of all the things that could be in the bag, they find a cat inside! This adorable tuxedo is scared and cold, being that it's winter and 15 degrees outside. Who would do such a thing?
Wondering who would be so cruel as to leave a cat in a bag isn't worth your time, but reading about the good-hearted people who saved her is. They already had a black cat that they got on Halloween, named Beetlejuice. It just so happens that the two cats get along swimmingly.
What makes tuxedo cats so special is not only their good looks. They're celebrated for being especially clever, charismatic, and spirited. They're known for being playful, quick to learn, and unusually expressive. Some studies even suggest that tuxedo kittens open their eyes earlier than their peers! So open your eyes and look no further than the wholesome and adorable rescue story where the CDS brought a nice couple an adorable second kitty, dolled up in a purse no less.
21 Pawsitive Kitties For a Healthy Purrspective on Life
Diagnosis doctor?
He has a bad case of…the giggles due to cat memes.
We all need a dose of fun in our lives. What's the point of it all if we're not going to laugh? Pawsitivity is something that carries us throughout everything we do. It's a mood, a mindset. Without a dash of positivity, then everything will feel like the weight of the world. When you're in a positive state of mind, then a scraped knee, a papercut, or bad news can turn itself into something meaningful, beautiful, or opportunistic.
Health is something important to maintain as well. Without our physical, mental, and emotional health, it can be extra difficult to be in a positive mood. Health is so tied to our emotions, and keeping a healthy heart is something that can sometimes go beyond our notions of what healthy means. When we're tethered to people who make us miserable, then it's going to affect our health in some way, whether we like it or not. Being heart healthy doesn't just apply to love – it's a combination of how we treat ourselves in our diet, exercise, lifestyle habits, and sleep. To keep a healthy heart, it's important to consume foods rich in fiber, vitamins, and minerals, such as fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts, and legumes. Limiting sodium, added sugars, and saturated fats can help immensely.
When it comes to physical activity, it's important to move around. Walking, running, or even cleaning the house can all amount to significant changes in your health, if that's what you're looking for. And for sleep? Well, sometimes it feels like we live in the age of sleeplessness. It's never been easier to be sleepy, but simultaneously stay up late consistently while being in the comfort of our own bed. Scrolling has an addictive, dopamine system in our brains, which means we can binge scroll, but still be exhausted and on the verge of collapse.
Cat memes are a part of that system of dopamine hitting, obsession starting habits that just make us smile and stay up all night. It's important to take everything with a grain of salt, and to understand that even if cat memes give you a healthy mindset, a dose of pawsitivity, and a sense of purpose, to still try and get your 8 hours of sleep.

Ghostlight by Suzanne Palmer : The fourth and final book in The Finder Chronicles is a satisfying stopping point, but I dearly hope there is more some day. ( Spoilery thoughts. )
Silver & Lead by Seanan McGuire: Somehow I let the new October Daye book get by me last fall, so right after finishing Ghostlight, I picked it up and read it in a day. It picks up four months after the last big story; I hesitate to call it a calmer story, because there is no such thing as a calm Toby Daye story, but in comparison to what came right before it does seem like a bit of a break (although with a warning for child endangerment). ( Spoilers for the book and series. )
Saving Throw: I'm pretty sure I've mentioned the Save Data Team streaming channel here before. I discovered them some years ago through their Ace Attorney with an Actual Lawyer series (they're currently working on Investigations 2, which is the only game in the series I've never played, so it's been fun to discover it along with them), and I've been watching much of their content ever since. But one series I hadn't been following was Saving Throw, which is their D&D actual play podcast. I kept telling myself that I would catch up someday, and I decided "someday" had finally arrived. I've actually been listening to the audio-only podcast version, which makes it much easier to listening while doing other things; I'm now up to Arc 4 (Episode 30) and enjoying it immensely. Chris, the DM, is an excellent storyteller who's created an interesting post-apocalyptic world, and he expertly wrangles a team of five screw-ups who've just graduated at the bottom of their class from an adventurers academy. The stakes start out apparently small, but before long the group is thrown into the deep end of politics and legends, and it's fun to watch them navigate that as well as their interpersonal relationships. The DM and players all know each other really well, and that trust and respect shows in the way they play, even when they're giving each other a hard time. The series is still going -- looks like they just wrapped up Arc 7 -- and I'm looking forward to catching up.
